What happens during the scan

You lie on a padded table that slides into a tube-shaped scanner. The machine makes loud knocking and buzzing sounds while it works, so you are given earplugs or headphones. Some scans use a contrast agent called gadolinium, injected into a vein to make certain tissues and vessels stand out.
